ยท Rapeseed & mustard is predominant oilseed crop in Assam because of the prevailing climatic conditions and early duration of the crop, which enable the farmers to go for the summer crop after harvest of Toria. Research on oilseeds in Assam started in 1951 at Shillongani, Nagaon under Deptt. of Agriculture, Assam. During 1968-69 ICAR started AICRP on oilseeds (Rapeseed and mustard) with its head Quarter at Directorate of oilseed research, Hyderabad. The scheme was formally handed over to AAU, Jorhat in 1973. From 1993-94 the scheme was renamed as AICRP on Rapeseed mustard with its headquarter National Research Centre on Rapeseed mustard, Bharatpur, Rajasthan, later renamed as ICAR - Directorate of Rapeseed - Mustard Research which is very recently renamed as ICAR - Indian Institute of Rapeseed - Mustard Research.
