Assam is primarily an agrarian state and almost 75% of the total work force is engaged in Agriculture and allied sectors. However, as assessed at government level, there is a dearth of skilled human resource to give a fillip to this sector. As such, the proposal of setting up of 3rd college of Agriculture get due weightage to further strengthen the capacity of AAU to develop quality human resource for the purpose. Therefore, to create a strong base of agriculture education in the state Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam announced to establish an Agriculture college in Dhubri district of Assam in his budget speech in Assembly session during the year 2008-09. The Govt. allotted 100 ha of land at Rangamati near Chapar town in Dhubri district to Assam Agricultural University to establish an Agriculture college. The college was named after Late Sarat Chandra Sinha, Ex. Chief Minister of Assam who was born and brought up in this locality. It deserves mention that Late Sinha was not only a simple and honest person but also the champion of the causes of the farmers and downtrodden people. Thus, setting up of agriculture college in this locality not only help to fulfill a long felt dream of the people of Lower division of Assam but also considered as a great tribute to a great leader of political and social importance of the state.
Sarat Chandra Sinha College of Agriculture (SCSCA) had its origin in the Faculty of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. The college functioned from Faculty of Agriculture, Jorhat during first 4-years of its existence. The foundation stone of the college was laid at Rangamati on 7th of February 2009 by the then Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Tarun Gogoi, Hon’ble in presence of a hosts of Ministers including the former Minister of Agriculture & WTP Smt. Pramila Rani Brahma. The full-flagged campus of SCSCA, Dhubri was inaugurated on 22nd August, 2014. Dr. Ranjit Sarma was appointed as the first Associate Dean of the college. The Academic Session of SCSCA was also started at its own campus from August, 2014 itself and enrolled the 5th batch comprising of 25 numbers of students for a 4-year Degree Programme leading to B Sc. (Agri.) degree. As the permanent campus of the college at Rangamati in Dhubri district was inaugurated on 22nd August, 2014, the Foundation Day of the college is celebrated every year on 22nd August.
The College CampusThe land area of the Academic campus is 24 hectares. Geographically, the college campus is located on the globe between 89o43´ East longitude and 26o18´ North latitude and 26.45 m above msl. The SCS College of Agriculture is located at Rangamati in Dhubri district at a distance of 3.5 km in the northern direction of Bahalpur bus stoppage on NH-31 adjacent to Chapar town. The state capital Guwahati is situated in the South-Eastern direction at a distance of about 220 km from the college campus while the district head quarter Dhubri is 80 km away from the college campus in the western direction of the district. The campus is well connected by Road with NH-31 together with railway link at convenient distance. Besides road connectivity, the campus can be reached conveniently via one of the three railway stations viz. Kokrajhar, Abhayapuri and Bongaigaon at a distance of 20, 28 and 30 km respectively from the college campus. The nearest airport is LGB International Airport, Borjhar near Guwahati at a distance of about 195 km from college campus.
Goal and Objectives- 1) The goal of the college is to generate technically sound quality human resource in the Agricultural & allied sectors, also to generate ground-breaking agricultural technologies and dissemination of the same through extension activities for improvement of the socio- economic condition of the farming communities of Assam on a sustainable basis.
- 2) To achieve the goal of the college, the specific objectives are to produce globally competitive B. Sc. (Agri.) graduates and active involvement of faculty in technology generation and dissemination process.
- Eligibility for Admission
Admission is strictly on merit basis and on the criteria as prescribed by the Academic Council, AAU from time to time. A candidate who has passed 10+2 examination in Science stream or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology in place of Biology) of recognized University or Board securing 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate is eligible for admission. Also the candidate should not be less than 17 years of age on the last date of submission of application.
Counselling and admission of the selected student is carried out as notified by the AAU authority.
Academic Programme
The College offers B.Sc. (Agri.) Degree Programme, which is of 8 (eight) semesters (minimum 4 years) including one semester for Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) and one semester for Experimental Learning Programme (ELP) as per Academic Regulation of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.

Hostels
Hostel facilities available for both boys and girls. Basic amenities including generator facilities are available in the hostels. Regular students are required to stay in hostels of the College unless permitted otherwise by the concerned authority.
