College of Horticulture and Farming System Research
Assam with diverse agro-ecological situations within each agro-climatic zone provides ample opportunity for a variety of horticulture crops. Sustainable technology and crop management had been important aspects focused during the 11th Five Year Plan period for crop productivity enhancement and value edition. Horticulture, in the coming years, is presumed to play vital role in strengthening the economy through employment generation, crop diversification, product quality and nutritional security. Substantial growth in next few decades is expected in the demand for horticulture products, newer technology and precision management with a shortage of skilled persons required and available for the sector. The new initiative to set up a college is thus necessity and timely to strengthen human resources in the field of horticulture.
