Achievements
  • Associated with development of 6 rice varieties. These include 2 high yielding rice varieties (Jyotiprasad and Bishnuprasad) for growing in boro season, two medium duration high yielding rice varieties (Satyaranjan and Basundhara) for growing in sali season, particularly, in areas suitable for multiple cropping and 2 submergence tolerant sali rice varieties (Jalashree and Jalkuwari) that can withstand submergence for about two weeks.
  • Coordinated seed production programme of the University as the Nodal Officer of ICAR Seed Project and also as the Nodal Officer of Technology Showcasing/Participatory Seed Production Programme. The seed production programme of the University underwent sea change from 2010-11 as it started producing quality seeds in the farmers’ fields with active participation of the farmers. Because of successful implementation of the seed production programme the Assam Agricultural University was adjudged as the ‘Best Centre’ of the ICAR Seed Project – ‘Seed Production in Agricultural Crops’ for the year 2015-16 among 39 agricultural universities associated with the ICAR Seed Project.
  • Initiated and prepared the proposal for obtaining GI for Joha rice of Assam which happened to be the first of its kind for the University (Got the GI in the name of ‘Seuj Satirtha’).
